About Bangalore

Bangalore CityBangalore got its name from ‘Benda Kalu Ooru’, or ‘City of Boiled Beans’. According to legend, Hoysala King Veera Ballala was lost in the woods here, and on being served a bowl of boiled beans by a kind local woman, named the place so. Kempe Gowda, a feudal chieftain under the Vijayanagara kings was the master planner in establishing and shaping the city.

Bangalore is the first city to get electricity, Bangalore continues to be a forerunner in her quest for a popular modern identity. Stupendous technical and industrial progress and a thriving entertainment and cultural scene have seen Bangalore rubbing shoulders with the country’s other metros. The city is now home to a over 7.2 million people, and Bangalore is India’s IT capital, the ‘Silicon Valley of India’. And now, Bangalore is characterised by its youth who are global citizens. But the city’s infrastructure seems to be exploding under the strain of all this development. The authorities are finally waking up to this fact, but any action been undertaken is a shade too slow.
